==================================================
The car has been owned/driven by me for the past 5 years and has been one of the best cars I have ever owned. It has high miles, 230k, but has been well maintained with regular oil changes. The 2.2 litre Subaru engine in this car is regarded by many as the best engine Subaru ever built. (Do some google-ing of "EJ22"...)
The car received both CV shafts new exactly a year ago, so no popping when you turn and having to foot a bill to have those replaced for a loooong time. It threw it's first ever Check Engine light recently, which indicated the knock sensor needed replaced, and it has been replaced, so the light is no longer coming on, as the issue was fixed. The car has received new brake pads all around as well (yes, it is 4 wheel disc). Probably less than 300 miles on the pads, so they should last you awhile. The windshield was replaced less than a year ago due to a crack/chip on the original. (By Safe Lite Autoglass in BG.) The tires are fairly new and have lots of good tread on them, so you won't have to buy tires for awhile. Oil/filter was also recently changed.
Now, this is a 13 yr old car, so it isn't perfect. It is a good, solid car, though. It does have a rebuilt title. The guy who purchased the car new was involved in an accident where the front left side was damaged and was sold as a rebuildable salvage car, which is when I took ownership. A professional frame shop straightened the car, and it has never had an issue with uneven tire wear for the 5 years that I have driven it. The hood, fender, and front bumper were replaced. The AWD system has worked flawlessly for all the time I have owned the car--a few years ago I drove through a blizzard up north and was amazed at the AWD setup, as it transfers power away from a non-traction tire. If you are new to AWD, after you own your first AWD car you'll probably never want to own a front wheel drive car again--they are that different.
Kelly Blue Book rates the private party sale value of this car in fair-to-good condition is $2700, and I think it's in better than fair condition, but I listed it as fair because the title is rebuilt. I'm asking $2,000. In the photos, the car does not have the factory alloy wheels, (they're currently on my Impreza) but the 5-star aluminum wheels with good tires will be put on the car for the final sale. If plastic wheel covers are fine with you, then I'll knock off $200 from the asking price and you can leave the steel wheels on there with good tires too (they have a lot of tread, but are not as much a performance tire.)
The car was repainted this time last year with PPG brand paint; however, the finish of the white paint has some orange peel. If a person wanted to show some love to the car, the whole thing would be lightly wet-sanded with fine paper and then sprayed with a couple coats of clear coat. There has been no rust issues with the body.
Like I said, it's not a perfect/flawless car. The leather is a little worn in some spots, the carpet has a few scattered stains, the rear defroster has some wires that don't work, the climate control buttons on the dash need the light bulb replaced to illuminate at night, the passenger side mirror was repaied rather than replaced after getting whapped off recently, the factory radio has a couple buttons where the plastic knob is broken off (but still works fine), the door trim on the passenger side has some ripples at the top, the right taillight lens is cracked, the radiator support beam where it meets the fender/rail under the hood has some rust, the front bumper has some bad paint spots on it, the headlight lenses are a little foggy, and you can feel a slight vibration when the car is sitting still in Drive (been doing that for three or four years.) The sun roof has experienced a leak on both sides, but both sides had a new drain tube run through it, so that should be an issue you don't have to worry about. The brake pads have been replaced, but you'd probably want the rotors turned the next time pads are put on. The car has tinted windows in the photos, but that tint has since been removed. It was beginning to go bad (flaking), so it was removed. I'm not going to have them re-tinted just to resell the car, but if you want to have them tinted, at least you won't have to pay someone to remove the old tint, which is a major pain in the butt and would cost you accordingly.
I've tried to cover all the good and bad about this car. Like I said, it's a 13 year old vehicle with high miles, but when you sit in it and drive, you'd never guess the engine has that many miles. It is a comfortable car. The AWD and ABS systems are awesome. The AWD system, under normal driving conditions, distributes 90% of the power to the front wheels and 10% of the power to the rear. When slippage is detected, traction is shifted where needed on the car and removed/reduced where slipping. I kind of hate to get rid of it, but I bought a newer Subaru this spring and the Legacy has been mostly sitting in the driveway since then, being driven occasionally.
If you are shopping for a used Subaru specifically, feel free to ask me for any info/advice if you are new to Subarus. I'm not an expert by any means, but I've had a lot of exposure to Subies these past 5 years. If you're looking for a 90s Subaru, find one with a 2.2 that's been taken care of and you should have a bulletproof engine that will last a long time.
